This section is currently under development. | Purple Flag Initiative
Purple Flag has been designed as an
objective assessment that will help improve town centres at night. Most
significantly it is designed to provide recognition that a centre is
managing its night time experience and thus help overcome any negative
public perceptions that may exist.
Purple Flag provides the
opportunity for successful centres to present themselves in their true
colours and in a positive light to town centre users, including
operators, residents, tourists and visitors.
Areas that reach or surpass Purple Flag standards can fly the flag! Benefits include:
- A raised profile and an improved public image
- Increased visitors
- Increased expenditure
- Lower crime and anti-social behaviour
- A more successful mixed-use economy
The
Purple Flag was developed by the Association of Town Centre Management
from original research undertaken by the Civic Trust as part of the
"NightVision" project. This showed that:
- More people would use centres at night if they were safer, more accessible and offered more choice
- A good mix of clientele can lessen intimidation and improve perceptions
- A wider range of attractions and consumers leads to longer term economic viability
It
is for all these reasons that Daventry Business Partnership is looking
to apply the process to Daventry town centre with the aim of achieving
the award. | Safer Shopper Award Accreditation
Daventry Business Partnership
has received the Safer Shopping Award Accreditation, a scheme which
recognises good practice & is available to business crime reduction
partnerships. Gaining this award has supported economic growth &
encouraged visitors into the town centre through positive publicity.

businesses, the police, Daventry District Council, transport providers
and other business crime reduction Schemes across the UK.
The primary aims of the initiative are to:

to date with information about persistent offenders & crime trends.
The National Business Information System (NBIS) is used to identify
& target persistent offenders & troublemakers who commit the
majority of crime. NBIS holds details of incidents, sightings &
other intelligence to complement existing police systems. Police
photographs are also used to identify theses individuals & disrupt
any criminal activity.

| Pubwatch
The Daventry Business Partnership works closely with
Daventry Pubwatch which is an independent organisation consisting of
representatives of local licensed premises.
Pubwatch is a crime
prevention scheme, organised & run by licensees within the
community. Their key aim is to promote a safe, secure environment in
all licensed premises to help reduce alcohol related crime.
Members
of pubwatch schemes are linked by telephone, radio or pager system
which enables them to pass on messages about criminal or disorderly
behaviour quickly & efficiently. The object of this is to reduce
criminal conduct in licensed premises, to notify other licenced premises
& increasing communications between licensees & police
officers. Local pub watch schemes aim to:
- Provide a message passing system
- Provide mutual aid
- Combat violence
- Recognise & report possible problems
- Help the police by providing information that can make best use of their time & resources
Members
of the scheme have agreed to support each other in an attempt to reduce
the number of violent incidents in pubs & clubs. In particular
they have agreed that anybody banned from one pub will be banned from
all.
Carrying out any of the offences below, whilst in licensed premises could result in a ban:
- Assaults a member of staff
- Assaults a customer
- Uses or sell drugs
- Causes criminal damage to property
- Practices anti-social behaviour
Northamptonshire
police fully support the Pubwatch scheme & are happy to act in an
advisory & supportive role. All decisions made are solely by the
Pubwatch members.
